Chapter 14 ~ Chase
Brandy found me a little while later as I stood on a small stepladder in the garage twisting wire connectors onto the wires for the new door opener.
âPhew.â She wiped the back of her hand over her forehead. âItâs getting a little warm out there in the sun.â She had a smudge of dirt on her cheek and tendrils of her hair were stuck to the side of her face. I didnât think sheâd ever looked more beautiful.
âYouâre from the south, isnât it hot down there all the time? Itâs only supposed to hit eighty-two here today. Thatâs perfect summer weather.â
âI live in South Carolina. Believe it or not, we do get snow in the winter, although it is generally warmer, and in the summer the humidity is horrible. Normally, I stay inside where itâs air conditioning.â
I tightened the last one and climbed off the ladder, âYou regretting your decision to spend the afternoon stalking me?â
She sauntered over to me with her lips in a seductive pout, âAnd miss seeing you all dirty and sweaty? No way. I stand behind my decision to stalk you.â
I laughed at her, âI never pictured you liking dirty, sweaty men.â
âI donât.â She ran a finger down my nose, âI just like you all dirty and sweaty.â
She tipped her face up to mine, and I didnât hesitate to touch my lips to hers tenderly. I wanted to wrap her in my arms, but there was no way I was going to do that as filthy and hot as I was.
Brandy and I both tilted our heads simultaneously to deepen the kiss. Our tongues swirled in slow, tender, almost choreographed movements. When I pulled back from her, I got lost in her soft green eyes. I had to find a way to keep her in my life. I couldnât bear to lose her again.
âYou keep looking at me like that, and Iâm going to fall into your arms right here, dirty or not.â
I shuffled the slightest bit closer, our chests almost touching. âYou know, I think the garage door will close now. We could give it a try.â
A variety of emotions flashed over her face before disappointment claimed her features. âMaybe another time. I think it might get really hot in here if we did that right now.â
âOh, there you guys are,â Sophia said as she came around the corner of the garage wall. âAre you guys interested in coming over to Scottâs a little later for a couple of beers? We could throw some burgers on the grill.â
âThat sounds like a great idea, but what would you guys think if we did that at my place? I just put together my new grill, and Iâd love to break it in.â
âSounds perfect! How about we bring the beer? Do you need anything else?â
âWe can stop at the store on the way back to my place and pick some burgers up. Is that alright with you, Brandy?â
âSounds perfect, but do you mind if we ask Casey and Thad to join us?â
âOf course not.
